One Stone, Every Form

Giallo Siena Marble Product Forms

One stone, and every shape it is sold in. Each form below is shown in our own workshop, with the specification that form has to meet. Where a format is a published trade format rather than something we hold, it says so.

Giallo Siena marble — Raw Block

Raw Block

The stone as it leaves the Sovicille district, before anything is done to it. The block is the only form in which the material can still be read in three dimensions.

block size
Average block size 2.50–3.20 m × 1.30–1.70 m × 1.30–2.00 m[S1] block and slab characteristics
pre sawing
Before sawing, blocks are recommended to undergo resin treatment in a vacuum.[S1] block and slab characteristics
Giallo Siena marble — Slab

Slab

The block opened on the gang saw and read on the scanner before it is cut. A slab is chosen for where the figure runs, not for its size.

cutting direction
Slabs are preferably cut along the grain and against the grain — that is, the hard way.[S1] block and slab characteristics
minimum cut thickness
10 mm minimum slab thickness after vacuum resin treatment[S1] block and slab characteristics
Giallo Siena marble — Thickness

Thickness

The thickness is a decision about what the piece has to do, not a preference. Thinner is lighter and cheaper to ship; thicker carries a span.

commercial thickness
18 mm · 20 mm · 30 mm are the thicknesses most commonly supplied[S5] trade listings for Giallo Siena; [S1] for the block-to-slab relationship
Giallo Siena marble — Tile and Module

Tile and Module

The slab cut into modular tile. The formats below are the ones this stone is commonly cut to; anything else is cut from the slab against the figure.

tile 10mm
15×15 · 30.5×30.5 · 61×30.5 · 40×40 · 45.7×45.7 · 61×61 · 80×40 · 91×45.7 · 121×61 cm[S3] acemar.it, Tile Formats, 1 cm thickness — reference ladder only
tile 20mm
30×30 · 40×40 · 45×45 · 60×60 · 120×60 cm[S3] acemar.it, Tile Formats, 2 cm thickness — reference ladder only
Giallo Siena marble — Profiled Edge

Profiled Edge

The arris worked to a profile. A profile is a decision about how the piece is fixed and how it is cleaned, and it is taken before the slab is cut.

Giallo Siena marble — Finished Surface

Finished Surface

The sawn face brought to a finish. The finish is the decision that carries the maintenance obligation, and every finish this stone takes has a verdict on it.

Giallo Siena marble — Packed for Shipment

Packed for Shipment

The piece banded, cornered and crated. The photograph is the last thing that happens before the container, and the reason a cut list has to be right.

What a cut list needs from us

A cut list is not a list of sizes. It is a list of pieces, and every piece has to come out of a slab that is long enough, wide enough, and carrying the figure in the right place. These are the sizes we hold, and they are what a cut list is checked against.

The forms are cut against the figure

The formats below are the ones this stone is commonly published in. They are cut from the slab against the figure, so a floor and the tiles that match it come out of the same slab rather than out of the nearest offcut.

An edge profile is decided by the slab and not by the piece, so it is agreed before the slab is cut. The profiles we work are on their own page.

Tell us what the job needs

Tell us the application, the size and the finish you need, and we will come back with what we can actually supply.

There is no checkout here and there is no price list. A stone enquiry is an agreement about material, size, finish and destination, and the answer depends on those four things. Send them and the reply carries what can actually be shipped.
